Conservation of an Egyptian Coffin

As a team, during my masters degree we conserved an Egyptian coffin from the Egypt Centre in Swansea. We carried out extensive treatment including tinting Japanese tissue paper with Vandyke Brown gouache, vacuum cleaning the interior, and retaining loose fragments. We performed gap fills on the base using methyl cellulose and Japanese paper pulp, and worked extensively on both the outer and inner base applying Japanese tissue paper and cartonnage. The treatment also involved preparing and reattaching the original head piece, which required careful removal of previous restoration materials using IMS and acetone.
